Alcatraz Island

On our tour to San Francisco on Friday, our first stop was to Alcatraz Island. Alcatraz Island first served as a Lighthouse, a Military Fort, a Military Prison and then a Federal Prison until 1963. Here are a few pictures of our trip to The Rock. We were so glad that Hayden slept the entire tour of the prison.

View of San Francisco from Alcatraz Island.

Making our way to the main Cellhouse.

This corridor was called Broadway. It was the main corridor that all prisoners were brought into the prison to their cells.

What a typical cell would look like.

Coming out of "The Hole" in Cell Block D. It was so chilly on this side of the prison. It was so odd walking into the cell and closing your eyes to experience what the prisoners would have felt.
